MEET THE NEW FACES OF SCHOOL MEALS IN NORTH YORKSHIRE
You will already be familiar with our popular school meals website at www.myschoollunch.co.uk/northyorks. The website has proved to be very successful since its launch in March 2006 and contains information for teachers, parents and children. There is a funfair of educational games that link to Key Stages One and Two of the National Curriculum. There is a curriculum grid that acts as a quick reference guide for teachers and highlights all the lesson plans and worksheets available. The password for teachers is herbie.
There is a club section for children that features the ever popular HERBIE the carrot and there are competitions to enter - the password is food.
There is also a section that features David Davies a swimmer who has achieved a gold medal at the European games ad a gold medal at the Olympics in Athens in 2004 for the 1500 metres swimming freestyle. This section includes animated swimming strokes that can be speeded up or slowed down, as a teaching aid.
Parents can access the site to see what is on the menu and to make comments about our meals service.
Roxie and Billy are two new cartoon style characters that have been introduced to educate Key Stage 2 children about the benefits of eating healthy food and leading an active lifestyle. The characters have their own mini-site at http://www.myschoollunch.co.uk/northyorkshire/kids/roxieandbilly/
On the Roxie and Billy site children can learn about the characters including how they met, what they like to eat and what sports they are interested in. There are also regular news stories so children can find out what Roxie and Billy have been up to. This month Roxie and Billy have visited North Yorkshire and children can read where they have been and what they did whilst they were here.
Children can also complete the Roxie and Billy award by downloading the activity sheet from the award section. They then have to go round the website using the clues given and collect all the pictures they need to complete the award. The password children is fitness and the password for teachers is herbie.
