EM DIRECT

The EM Direct Consortium does not find trainees for schools or schools for trainees. Prospective trainees, who wish to follow the employment-based training route are advised to contact schools directly, to find one, which is prepared to offer them a training place. Once a school agrees to place a potential trainee, contact should be made with EM Direct, to progress an application (01476 512780 – Option 1)

Information for Schools

When a potential applicant wishing to train as a teacher through the GTP route has found a school, which is willing to accept them, they should contact EM Direct to request further details and an application pack. Applications are made directly to EM Direct and each individual application is subject to scrutiny, as part of a rigorous selection process.

For those potential trainees, who wish to commence their training in September, the full selection process takes place in February/March. The closing date for applications can be obtained directly from EM Direct. Applications to start training at other times of the year can be made (subject to place availability) and dates can be obtained from EM Direct.

Any school, which is considering taking on a GTP trainee and which has not previously had any involvement with the GTP is advised to contact EM Direct for full details of the programme.

Information for Potential Trainees

If you are looking to train as a teacher on the Graduate Teacher Programme in a North Yorkshire School, the first step is for you to find a school that is prepared to offer you a training place. Once you have located a school, you need to contact EM Direct to discuss the application process. Please note, although a particular school is prepared to offer you a training place, this does not guarantee you a place. EM Direct operates a rigorous selection process, which is designed to identify the highest quality applicants, good training schools and takes into account the TDA Priority Areas for Recruitment and Teacher Training.

Currently these are:

• Secondary shortage subjects - mathematics, science, modern foreign languages, technology (both ICT and design and technology) and RE.

• High quality primary applications; applications in any subject or phase that make the teaching force more representative of society, for example increasing men in primary teaching, teachers from minority ethnic groups and teachers with disabilities;

• High quality secondary applications in any subject; applications to train people currently working as teaching assistants.

Further information about training on the GTP with EM Direct can be obtained from the EM Direct website.
