Radioactive Sources

Very detailed guidance about the use and storage of radioactive sources in schools is given in the updated CLEAPSS guide L93 Managing Ionising Radiations and Radioactive Substances. You can find a copy of the latest version (Sep 2008) on the CLEAPSS website. It will also be on the 2009 CLEAPSS disc which is sent to schools in December 2008, or by following the link to the CLEAPSS website below.

If you need to dispose of any surplus sources, then read the Environment agency and CLEAPSS letters which you can download from the linked page below. The deadline for subsidised disposal has passed, but if you read the Environment Agency letter and follow their guidance, this should not be a problem.

If you are purchasing new sources, or have any queries, your Radiological Protection Officer for North Yorkshire LA is Terry Kirk.
